State Called “India”
“They will be from state called India”, said the last line of Epilogue of Chetan Bhagat’s new book, “2 States“.
Chetan’s earlier 3 books were nice stories. But, I am still of the thought the first book by an author is the best book he can do. “5 point someone” of Chetan remains still the best fiction work for me. I read 2 states like a fiction as Chetan wanted its readers to do.
“2 states”, a nice little story of cross culture battles, for their loved ones. It does give big social message, called “INDIA“. India is notion, rather than nation that we live in now. We proudly as kids said, “I am from INDIA”, till the time we grow up we end up saying, from Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, north India, South India, east etc. The wave of discrimination creeps in each individual, while schools and colleges never taught us that. Then where does it come. It’s our home, relatives, clan etc. Of course, not to forget our political leaders, who woo masses with their irrational speeches doing brain washing?
Chetan quit his international investment banking career in 2009, to devote his entire time to writing and make change happen in the country. He lives in Mumbai with his wife Anusha, an ex-classmate from IIMA and his twin boys Shyam and Ishaan.
His story shows turmoil eh went through to unite just few people from 2 states. His dedication is seen in above line. Imagine contribution we need to put in for our dream (at least mine) “India – the one”. We don’t have to start marrying cross culture. But respect the other cultures equally as your own. Not just we but our upbringing to our kids should be towards India and nothing else.
This still remains the dream to have a single state called India, and all 35 states in one.

i have read chetan earlier and frankly haven’t like his work at all!
And i do agree to be resepctful to other cultures! Absolutely!

Listening to message will only happen when we have no movie like Ek Duje ke liye ever made again

The book indeed conveys the message really well inspired by his own experiences! Nice read! I liked this one next to FPS.

Well book is indeed a good experience, definitely after FPS, but my point is when is an Indian going to realize the Indianess behind whole story.

Well! I did get ur point! I hv no idea when ppl with such deep a conditioning will change but we can definitely see to it that we don’t behave as such and that we never ever get our next generation to know anything more than one state ‘India’

We all have already forgotten boundaries of states, and many have countries as well. Still we point negatives of others before ours isn’t it too bad.

Well movies are made and they i will be there, but Books always stands out to best.
Moreover each book has its own culture so with the author. same with Chetan Bhagat.
Major thing i am pointing here is the message this books trying to convey.

I some how don’t get why people need to be told about such noble thoughts.
it was with us right from childhood, we say India is my nation, and then when school is gone it becomes “Notion“, and you realize it only when you see commotion around you.

Would love to gift the book to a few politicians, especially after the recent incidents. We need to realize that we are Indians first and then comes the states where we live.

Harish,
First of all, Welcome to my Blog!
I am still not sure if it will help, as most of the minister are S.S.C certificates holder, with English as third language. And those who are in capacity to read, are above all these social thoughts.
Another problem lies is where IIM might get a slide in its ranking.
But would be really great Gandhigiri Idea to gift the book.
