When Crores are spent before elections, on Advetising!

February 18th, 2009

After a month of late working, today i managed to give a skip, and reach home early. I was deprived of luxury watching television for over a month, i wanted to take out time and catch up with the “Idiot Box”.

I reached,  started swapping channels, till I found a very unusual advert.

Advertisements was on :

  1. Jawaharlal Rojgar Yojna (Modified and effective from 1.1.1994)
  2. Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY)
  3. Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY)
  4. Mera Desh Mahan - central government of India.

These adverts were so graciously placed in 2-3 leading channels on TV set. I was happy at social initiative by central government to promote their own schemes on television. Most of this schemes are in there for over last 10-15 years. But very rarely talked about and only find their mention in Budget as amount spent on Social and Economical Welfare.

But their frequency started annoying me in half an hour. I saw each Advert at least thrice in 30 -45 minutes.

Adverts were shown in beaming in many corners of the country. It prompted me to find out this schemes and their stats of work done. I was not shocked to find out that Maharashtra was not listed in any of the 3 schemes. And no data was available on many of the states. Ideally, never worked with this schemes in states not mentioned.

I googled Schemes details in brief, schemes seemed to be for rural India. Mostly for people, who cannot poor and unemployed. I was not sure with this advertising weather right messages was going to right people.

Zee television and Radio channels are at the peak, giving out their time slots for this kind of advertisement. With a backdrop of elections coming, all this seems to be a election stunt to me. I just find it to be way to woe out educated poeple who are Television crazy, which are not end beneficiaries of any  scheme. It was just to publicize that we have worked on this area.

At end i would hope, amount of money sent on promotions of this advertisement could have been utilized, and atleast one more villages would brought under implementation. And educated people like us don’t fall for under the coverage of this schemes.

What are politicians and these channels of mass communication upto?

Just praise themselves and try and fix a vote bank,

OR

After long years decade in some cases, Government thinks that its time for them to make masses aware of this schemes.

Dream comes true after 10 years

January 25th, 2009

26 December 2008, a month to our Republic Day number 60th. Rajpath was on its way of make over. Work was in progress for most prestigious “RD Parade” (Republic Day Parade).

Over the years, right from childhood, i have seen people from forces, personnel etc. marching on this road, with a great pride and honor. Its a mark of respect to nation, and individuals on dice.

Almost 10 years back, while under going training i was being asked to “Fall Out” and go and join separate division. A group of individual who were to be observed and trained. These cadets were to represent our training institute (para-military category) at “RD parade”.

With news coming to us, entire pack was happy. We were rehearsing 12 hours a week. We had already made our rhythm of march as heart beat. It was as if, we missed a step in a march we missed our heart beat.  Each one was confident to make it. We had done a similar exercise before in honor of then Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat. Hence our confidence was high. Each one had a dream to kiss that road, that has seen so many march.

But dreams are dreams. One Sunday all confident guys were made to “Fall Out”. We were happy and thought we made it. That joy short lived on our faces. We were given a letter to be signed by parents and our respective school authorities/registrar. The letter said “NOC” (No Objection Certificate). When showed to parents, i realized, i was having a trouble in my hand in form of declaration. NOC was meant to have a declaration that there was no impact on my schooling and personal activities by a week long trip to “Rajdhani” (Delhi- capital) on account of “RD parade”.

It meant trouble to parents, they were happy with opportunity i had got. But they also wanted me to concentrate on  ”SSC” (Matriculation that year itself). Unfortunately, the schedule of “RD” was overlapping my preliminary examination for “SSC”. Parents said, “We let go if school approve to postpone your papers, or at least re-conduct it for you”. And that sentence meant clear “NO”. I had being skipping my classes to be a part of training group 40 miles away. I knew i was running short on attendance (75%).  School response was 2 lettered “No”. And i saw my dreams of making it happen shattered.

I really wanted to be part of it. Unfortunately, there were so many like in same pack. Some did overcome opportunity, with help of parents, and taking a year drop at school. Making my parents to take that decision was foolish thing to do. Eventually I was forced to retire from the training.

From that day, till today. I do keep remembering, how dangerous can be dreaming, when you don’t have situation in your hand. And you are not the decision maker.

Opportunity knocks, and you should grab it. It took exactly 10 years, a bit more. I was in Delhi, as a part of my tour to Northern India. With a first step on New Delhi station, recollected by dream. After checking in hotel, getting fresh, lunch and then i was already walking in direction of Rajpath.

After having fantastic ride of Delhi Metro, I was at central secretariat station. After coming out of station, I had Vijay Chowk on right and India Gate on my left, and me on Rajpath. It was foggy even in evening. India Gate was more than a mile walk. I walked the distance (Marched with heart beat) twice.
salute

Saluted war soldiers of war!
kissing Rajpath

Kissed Rajpath! and was on my way back to hotel.

Eyes were filled with spark of achievement, fulfillment.

I got my first dream fulfilled!

Filthy statements of our leaders!

December 5th, 2008

Last week after attack, politics had taken a swing. Our leaders were on roads to gain maximum political mileage out of it. We had seen a huge protest put up on 3rd december 2008, at Gateway. To answer questions raised by poeple on streets no one was in office. CM was busy checking out of his Position, so was HomeMinister (missing). Central was busy finding next inline for chair. Most of the portest went on deaf ears. Security is still not the same, except that poeple are more cautious. And then Ministers turned out as follows:

The CM of Kerala, V S Achuthanandan, said in press yesterday,

Had it not been for Major Unnikrishnan, not even a dog would have come to his dad’s home.

For such minister, I would say, Mr. CM, if you were not CM of Kerala, and tried to go to his home, many dogs would have bitten you on your way. A person who safeguards ministers life over his own is called and treated like a “DOG”.

BJP’s Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said yesterday,

Women wearing lipstick and powder, have taken to streets in Mumbai, Leading marches against the political class.”

He said further and again

Some women wearing lipstick and powder have taken to streets in Mumbai and are abusing politicians, thus spreading dissatisfaction against democracy. This is what terrorists are doing in Jammu and Kashmir.”

He further said

A few persons with lipstick and powder on their faces gather to shout slogans against politicians. This is not the nation’s voice,”

I would say, what is his problem? Is it that women are wearing lipstick and powder (probably he likes women who do not wear makeup), or is it that political class is being challenged? I think it is both.

Mahrashtra CM, Vilasrao Deshmukh took his son and movie producer/director Ram Gopal Verma to the Taj Hotel during his visit there. I think RGV may have promised him a role of comedian in his forthcoming movie which he is probably planning on Mumbai attacks.

He laughed through his press conference and through a written speech without a trace of emotion or involvement.”

Deshmukh was in Kerala, reportedly on a personal trip, perhaps a leisure trip when the city he is supposed to guard was attacked by terrorists. It took several phone calls for him to finally realise the gravity of the situation. Even when he came to the city the next day, there was no panic on his face and often he beamed a shameless grin on his face. On several occasions, when he was briefing the media, he said that nearly 25 to 30 terrorists landed in the city and when corrected he said he would ask for details from the Police Commissioner.

RR Patil, Deputy CM of Maharashtra, refused to resign after attacks. He snubbed Mumbai attacks as such minor incidents do happen in big cities. He said

The terrorists had ammunition and planned to kill 5,000 people. But the brave police security forces crushed their designs and reduced the damage to a much lesser degree.

Probably he meant to say that due to his and his party’s efforts, lives of 5780 people has been saved. Thanks a lot sir. This was comically followed with another statement, which he issues after tendering his resignation. He said

I pondered over the issue the whole night yesterday. I have submitted my resignation letter to chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. I have gone by my conscience and decided to take this step.

These people have dead conscience. When people shout from outside, they think its their conscience that is speaking.

Not far behind is Hindutva flag bearer Mr. LK Advani. When asked why did he not accompany Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Mumbai as planned and said by him in the morning, he said,

He (PM) was getting late and it seemed that he would come only tomorrow. I have my election programmes planned for tomorrow and hence had to rush because I wanted to take a feel of the situation here.

Narendra Modi came to gain mileage out of ATS chief Hemant Karkare’s death by announcing a reward of Rs. 1 crore – for the very man he had abused over the Malegaon blast arrests. Modi was snubbed by Karkare’s wife who would neither meet him nor accept his compensation offer.

Yesterday an SMS that I received said:

“Let us pray that Chidambaram succeeds in bringing down terrorism the way he has brought down share prices.”

It’s a shame that Indian politics has fallen. Sometimes i really wonder, whom have we voted. Is our priceless vote worth given to this curts. A friend of mine just said that real character of an individual comes forth through how he/she behaves in a difficult time. It’s a shame that these filthy politicians have started giving foolish statements.

Where is Raj? – keep politics away!

November 29th, 2008

Where is Raj? – keep politics away!

In entire day yesterday, received a message starting with “Where is Raj? .. bully”. Mass SMSes were followed by chain e-mails contain same message. Being a “Marathi Manus” I was bombarded with the same question verbally by my colleagues as well. The entire message said in email:

“Tell This Raj Thakrey That Some North Indian Commandos are Fighting For His Own Place Maharashtra and Mumbai.
Should They Stop Their Fight against This terror.
Did He Checked that Whether they are Marathi Or Non Marathi?????

While the SMSes Said:

“Where is Raj Thackeray now? Tell him that 200 NSG commandos from Delhi being sent to fight the terrorists. So that he can sleep peacefully in Maharashtra….Please send across….”

I was shocked to see friday being so bad, politics had started taking over issues very serious like terrorism. I had responded to many people sending over SMS saying,

“Be a responsible citizen. Don’t mix regional politics with sensitive topic like terrorism. If a educated people like would do this, think of illiterates. Be more responsible, and don’t make loose comments like politicians.”

Its evenly bad out here! We say people are immune to Bomb blast. The spirit of Mumbai to fight back is nothing but a struggle to survive. A place where a person if doesn’t work for a day, his family had a glass of water of dinner and goes to sleep. Things had been bad over couple of months. But this time Mumbai had seen in worst. Heart of each Indian Wept over the incidence. It was not just Mumbaikar.

When attack on Mumbai was compared with attack Attack on India. When terror strikes let it be any part on India, Loss is of India!

We are well educated person. We would not fall to cheap politics. But would always seek opportunities to make India better and safer.
